About the Tour
A visit to the Sistine Chapel only, located inside Vatican City, in the Vatican Museums, which we propose on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
On this occasion, the Vatican Museums are accessible free of charge, so we propose a quick visit, focussing only on the Sistine Chapel. Since access cannot be reserved, visitors must line up, but at the end of the day the waiting time is not very long. We recommend that you line up around 2.30 pm.
You will meet your guide inside the Vatican Museums, immediately after the metal detectors, on the left hand at 3.45 pm. After receiving radios with earphones you will have a general introduction to the Sistine Chapel (about 30 minutes), a rapid crossing through the Museum Galleries, without explanations and arrive quickly in the Sistine Chapel, where it is not possible to explain, or take photographs or videos, with time to admire the frescoes and the Chapel itself. At the end you will meet the guide again, transfer to the exit and have further time available for questions and comments.
The Sistine Chapel, commissioned by Sixtus IV, was the private chapel of the pontiff and completed in 1480. The simple and powerful architecture has retained most of the original decorative plan, by a group of exceptional artists, such as Perugino, Botticelli, Ghirlandaio and Cosimo Rosselli, who depicted episodes from the life of Moses and Jesus on the side walls.
On the vault we will admire Michelangelo’s paintings, with scenes taken from the book of Genesis as well as the Last Judgment, painted 22 years later on the altar wall.
